Heat wave continues

The oppressive heat and humidity experienced over the past few days will continue through Thursday. Friday into Saturday will bring showers and thunderstorms that will result in a return to more seasonable temperatures.

It is recommended that people stay indoors in air conditioned spaces. If you do not live or work in air conditioning, please spend time at a mall, library or similar public area. Additionally, the Town of New Paltz will have their Community Center at 3 Veterans Drive open from 9 AM to 4 PM Thursday July 8 (extended from Tuesday and Wednesday).

If you must work outdoors, please use sun block and protective clothing, drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity, be particularly conscious of those with existing respiratory conditions and the elderly / small children / pets. Additionally, an air quality alert remains in effect, and the fire index is still "high" (potential for fire danger).
