Emergency Services Dispatcher Trainee Civil Service Exam Announcement

Interested in becoming a 911 dispatcher? The job title used at Ulster County Emergency Communications is “Emergency Services Dispatcher”. A Civil Service examination for this title will be held on April 28, 2012. The last day to file to take this exam is March 14, 2012. Minimum qualifications include a high school (or equivalency) diploma, and six months of full-time paid experience or its part-time / volunteer equivalent in the operation of two-way radios in police, fire, ambulance or related work (three months experience in public works, taxi, bus or other fleet operations may be substituted for three months of the total emergency services work required).

The starting salary for the trainee position is $17.84 per hour. There is a longevity step system that raises this salary to $19.74 per hour after one year, $20.23 per hour after two years,…and eventually to $24.50 per hour after 28 years. There is also a 10% differential for working nights and evenings.
