Cooling Station

Tuesday and Wednesday August 1 & 2 are expected to be dangerously hot days. The American Red Cross offices at 21 O'Neil Street in Kingston will be open both days from 9 AM to 5 PM as a cooling station. Persons in high risk groups are urged to take advantage of this facility BEFORE being overcome by high temperatures.

Additionally, here are some tips for these hot days:
*Stay indoors in air conditioning as much as possible; and stay in the shade if you go outdoors.
*If your home is not air conditioned, spend at least two hours at an air conditioned mall, library or other public place.
*Wear sunscreen outside, along with light colored clothes that cover as much skin as possible.
*Drink water regularly - even if your are not thirsty. Limit alconol intake which speeds dehydration.
*Never leave children or pets alone in a car.
*Avoid exertion during the hottest part of the day.
*Take a cool shower or bath.
